2013-2014 SPECIFICS

Teams will participate in the MAWHA League. The decision to continue to participate in the GAL league is under review as we also explore the formation of a new league with the Long Island Amateur Hockey League. Depending on attendance at tryouts the Lady Islanders will offer teams at the 10U, 12U, 14U and 19U levels. All teams will be registered as Tier II teams, however 19U will play ‘up’ in higher divisions at tournaments and opportunities to be visible to college coaches will be offered. Additionally, 19U will have some full ice practices each month. The Lady Islanders are governed by the LIAHL and USA Hockey.

Tuition will be similar to 2012-2013 levels and formally set in April 2013. Tuition will cover all league games, practices and two tournaments. Teams will play APPROXIMATELY 30 games per season for 12U, 14U and 19U teams and 15 games for 10U, plus each team will participate in at least two tournaments. The Lady Islanders are not responsible for cancelations due to force majeure however every effort will be made to reschedule games where possible.

Jerseys, socks, shells and warm-ups will be available for purchase through the Dix Hills Pro Shop. Home and away uniforms, Lady Islanders shells, and warm ups are mandatory for all players. Non-Lady Islanders’ uniforms may not be worn at games or tournaments.

As in past years there is a possibility that a girl could play up an age year depending on the following:

  • Skill level must rank above older girls that are competing for the spot in the older age group.
  • Parents have to be comfortable that their daughter can handle the physicality and pace of the older girls as well as the maturity level of the older girls she will be skating with.

The tryouts will be run by the Lady Islanders and players will be evaluated by the Lady Islanders coaching staff as well as a third party evaluator. Teams will be announced after the respective team's tryouts have concluded; results will be posted to the Lady Islanders website. Coaches will be announced for each team on or about that time. All teams and players are reset every year so players must work hard for a position at every level.

If anyone is interested in coaching next season, please contact Coaching Director Tom Duggan at and provide a hockey resume plus proof of USA Hockey coaching certification. Coaches will report to the Coaching Director as well as the Board of Directors during the course of the season.

If anyone is interested in being a team manager next season, please contact Christine at for details. Team managers will be selected once players and coaches are in place. Training and ongoing support throughout the season will be provided.

In order to secure a spot on a Lady Islanders team, selected players from tryouts must provide a $500 deposit AND fill out all registration forms. For a complete list of forms, please visit the Forms tab on our website. Proof of current USA hockey registration must also be provided. Once teams have been selected, sign up dates will be posted.

Best wishes to all prospective Lady Islanders players for a successful tryout and 2013-2014 season.
