Lady Islanders 12U Play in Detroit Invitational Tournament

February 1st-3rd, 2019, the Lady Islanders 12U Tier 1 team traveled to the Detroit Invitational Tournament to face top ranked 12U teams in the USA at Fraser Hockeyland.  Honeybaked  12U was the team’s first opponent with a final score of 5-0 on February 1st.  The afternoon brought a challenging opponent, Detroit Little Caesars 12U, and although the team battled back late in the game with two quick goals from Chloe Obser the Lady Islanders 12U lost 3-2.

The morning of Feb 2, the team played the Pittsburgh Penguins 12U and won 3-1.  Returning in the afternoon, the team faced the St Louis Lady Blues 12U.  Winning a tight game 2-1, the Lady Islanders were ranked 2nd going into the semi-finals round.

Sunday February 3rd, the team faced off against a determined Little Caesars 12U coached by Manon Rheaume (Olympic gold medalist Team Canada/first woman to play in NHL).  The Lady Islanders 12U hung on to the 2-1 lead in an exciting 2:30 minutes of the final period playing 4 on 6.  Their final opponent, Chicago Mission 12U, were ranked #1 in the country at the time of the tournament.  The teams battled back and forth until the 3rd period when Ava Glab took a penalty shot and pushed the Lady Islanders 12U Tier 1 ahead to a 1-0 lead.  The Chicago Mission 12U pulled their goalie in the waning minutes of the game but despite an extra attacker, the team held on to win the Detroit Invitational 12U Tier 1 age bracket.

Congratulations to Chloe Obser for Points Leader and Assists, Ava Glab for Points per Game, Sarah Wagner for Goals and Natalie Frey-Perusse for Wins (Goalie) in the 12U age bracket.  The Lady Islanders 12U Tier 1 had the most points and most wins for the 12U bracket.

The Lady Islanders 12U Tier 1 team should be recognized and congratulated for their hard work on & off the ice.  Congratulations to Coach Rob Hare and Coach Mark Dubeau for their efforts in preparing the team and coaching on the bench during the weekend.  Thank you to the parents for their support this weekend to allow the players to attend a great event put on by Legacy Hockey at the Detroit Invitational Tournament.
